Introduction

The client is a major multimedia company with over 700 bookstores though-out Japan. In the Japanese publishing industry, unsold books are returned to publishers, making inventory accuracy essential to avoid financial losses across the supply chain.

The client had relied on a legacy Excel-based system built over many years. It was slow, error-prone, and required significant manual effort. As the scale of operations grew, the system became a bottleneck for inventory control and decision-making.

CodeComplete developed a new custom Inventory Management System from the ground up. The solution retained existing user access while integrating data from various internal sources. Historical sales and inventory data were leveraged to enable stock optimization, demand forecasting, and targeted marketing.

The new system provided a centralized, scalable, and more accurate approach to inventory management. It reduced manual processes, improved operational efficiency, and helped the client manage risk in a uniquely complex publishing environment.
